Thinking Outside the Car - Mio Release the 710t GPS Personal Navigator With Integrated 2 Megapixel Camera

From the partial quote in this post’s title by tiKiyoshi Hamai, North American sales director in Mio’s 710t press release you can tell that the company believes it is something unique in the consumer GPS market. While it is an impressive piece of technology convergence it has at least one other rival in the recently reviewed Navman S90i S Series car GPS navigator.

Mio C710t Portable and Car GPS Navigation Device

The Mio 710t has a very similar specification to the recently reviewed Mio 710 car and portable GPS device. Extra or superior features include:

  • integrated 2 megapixel camera
  • ability to embed GPS coordinates into image data
  • navigation by images
  • wider 4.3 inch, WQVGA (480 x 272 pixels), TFT touchscreen (vs 3.5 inch for Mio 710)
  • an impressively large 12 million points of interest (POI) database

Mio 710t users are able to load photos from image sharing social web sites such as Flicker and use the embedded GPS coordinates to navigate with. It’s possible to program a holiday route into the Mio710t using images of all the sights you want to see.

Perhaps a little surprising is the Mio 710t having the same memory capacity as the Mio 710 with 2 GB NAND flash memory and 64 MB RAM.
