The TomTom ONE 130 and TomTom ONE 130S are TomTom’s new entry level portable GPS navigators to replace the TomTom ONE. The compact size of the previous model has been retained despite a new windshield mount which can be left on the device and a new, larger, more powerful speaker. The LCD touchscreen remains at 3.5 inches.

As mentioned, the new EasyPort mount can be folded flat on the 130 or 130S for easy transport or moving between cars. It will fit in a shirt pocket. Attaching the EasyPort mount to the windscreen (dashboard mounting disc also included) is a simple sequence of pushing it against the windscreen, sliding it to the right position (if necessary) and twisting the lock nut. An opposite twist removes it. As well as being convenient, the built-in mount ensures you keep the mount and display together for their next use. The video below shows how simple mounting the unit with the mechanical locking system is.

The TomTom ONE 130S has all the features of the 130 with the addition of text-to-speech so that users can hear street names being announced confirming that they are on route without having to look at the navigation display – a safety advantage. This leads one to mention another important upgrade by TomTom for this model – a completely revised audio system to ensure navigation instructions are heard even over distracting background noise such as from traffic.

TomTom HOME

As mentioned, TomTom HOME is a free software package for TomTom users giving access to a range of services and enabling contact with the global community of TomTom users. It’s what you use to manage, update and personalize your TomTom as well as purchase and install maps, make back-ups and download free software updates.

Latest Map Guarantee

TomTom’s Latest Map Guarantee is that if a new map is released within 30 days of purchase, you can download it for free from their free TomTom HOME software.
TomTom have in fact recently announced the availability of new maps of the United States and Canada (TeleAtlas data) which will come preloaded on new purchases. The new maps include; thousands of updated miles of road network, new and updated points of interest (POI), new road speed limit zones and updated toll roads.

Each TomTom navigator also comes loaded with thousands of POI. It’s possible to get alerts when a particular type of POI is within range. TomTom’s POI database is being continually updated and it’s possible to add your own POI as well.

Map Share

The TomTom ONE 130 and 130S come with TomTom’s Map Share Technology. As well as giving users the ability to personalize their maps, Map Share brings the power of community input to correct and improve available maps. Using Map Share users can; 1) modify street names and direction 2) add, remove or rename POIs and 3) (un)block streets on their own device. Users can share their map improvements and benefit from all other users’ improvements easily via TomTom’s HOME. TomTom’s user community of some 20 million provides plenty of leverage for ensuring maps are up to date.

Send Addresses Directly from Google Maps

A convenient feature available with Google Maps allows you to download a location you’ve found (GPS coordinates and address) directly to your TomTom ONE 130 or 130S portable GPS navigator.

With both the 130 models you can speed up your GPS position fix using QuickGPSfix.

Help Me! Emergency Menu

Traffic Capable

Expecting an entry level GPS navigator like the TomTom 130(S) to come with a RDS-TMC traffic receiver in is unrealistic. The TomTom 130(S) is Traffic Capable if teamed with an optional RDS-TMC traffic receiver. An RDS-TMC traffic receiver accessory uses FM radio channels to keep you informed in real-time of traffic events allowing you to minimize delays. There are also real-time warnings of dangerous road conditions ahead (US, Australia and Europe).

A one year free subscription to the TMC traffic service comes with the purchase of an RDS-TMC receiver accessory. When you purchase new maps the Traffic service covering that new area automatically becomes available. The TomTom Traffic service is currently available for Austria, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
