Spot Satellite Messenger with GPS Tracking Review

The Spot Satellite Messenger with GPS Tracking is a convenient sized (2.75 x 4.38 x 1.5 inches) safety device for use on adventure trips. Carrying it with you allows interested friends and family to follow your progress in real time or be sent alerts with your precise location. Importantly, the Spot Satellite Messenger allows you to send a distress message with GPS to an Emergency Response Center.

SpotChecking

The Spot Satellite Messenger’s SpotChecking feature allows you to send your location coordinates along with a Google Maps link and a pre-programmed message to a contact of your choice.

SpotCasting

When active, the SpotCasting feature broadcasts your location to your account allowing family and friends (up to 10 contacts allowed) to log in and follow your progress in real time (updates every 10 minutes) using Google Maps.

911 Distress Message and GEOS Alliance Emergency Response

When the 911 button is activated in the event of a life-threatening or other critical emergency, the Spot Messenger acquires a fix from the GPS network of your exact coordinates sends that location along with a distress message to the GEOS International Emergency Response Center which is part of the GEOS travel safety and travel security organization. The message is repeated every five minutes until cancelled. Messaging does not require a cell phone service as all messages are routed through communication satellites.

While Spot manufactures the Spot Satellite Messenger with GPS and provides the satellite messaging, GEOS Alliance provides the 24/7/365 Emergency Response capability. Duty Officers at the GEOS Emergency Response Center deal with emergency messages, liaising with Police, Coastguard or any other relevant authority as well as coordinating any additional private Search & Rescue resources that may be required to rescue you or save your life.

Conveniently, global satellite coverage allows the Spot Messenger to work around the world, including virtually all of the continental United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Australia, and portions of South America, Northern Africa, and Northeastern Asia. It has been estimated that the Spot will successfully send a message 99 percent of the time within 20 minutes.

With two AA lithium batteries loaded the Spot Messenger will operate for up to one year in standby mode, 14 days in SpotCasting mode, or 7 days in emergency mode.

Designed for outdoor conditions, the Spot Messenger is;
