May 8, 2009Garmin 1200 Series | Ultra Thin Personal GPS Navigators with CityXplorer MapsThe Garmin nuvi 1200 series Ultra-thin Personal GPS Navigators offers both a thinner form factor for navigation out of the car and improved pedestrian navigation features. The 1200 (and 1300 sister series) are the first Garmin Nuvi models to have CityXplorer maps for pedestrian navigation. CityXplorer maps are available ($9.99 – $14.99) for various tourist destination cities in North America and Europe and can easily be downloaded directly to the nüvi.
The more value conscious Garmin nuvi 1200 series models have a 3.5 inch touchscreen display. All have text-to-speech for spoken navigation directions including the street name rather than just the turn direction. It’s a feature which improves driving safety by providing confirmation that you are on track without glancing down to check the map display. All models also have maps of the lower 48 states, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
