TomTom GO Series GPS Satellite Navigators | Overview and Comparisons

TomTom’s GO range of GPS portable satellite navigation devices for cars includes the GO 740 LIVE, GO 930, GO 930T, GO 730 and GO 630. The GO range includes all the premium end features available from TomTom at the moment.

Common features across the GO range include a 4.3 inch widescreen, Bluetooth technology for hands-free phone calls, IQ Routes, Advanced Lane Guidance, voice recognition for spoken instructions, text-to-speech announcing of street names, QuickGPSfix boosting for satellite fixes, TomTom Home software, customizable status bar, photo viewer, pre-loaded POI and a 30 day map guarantee.

TomTom GO 740 LIVE

The TomTom GO range should be recognized for the driving safety boost provided by those features which allow the driver to maintain their focus on the road ahead including Bluetooth, voice recognition and text-to-speech. The large 4.3 inch widescreen also makes the drivers task of taking in the map display far easier.

The TomTom GO 740 LIVE is the flagship model with its LIVE services including Google local search which we have no doubt will steadily replace the pre-loaded POI in future GPS navigator models.

Traffic capability is either built-in or optional across the GO range. For those who are going to use a GPS mostly on frequently travelled roads the time saving achieved by traffic delay awareness is probably a primary reason for purchasing a GPS navigator. TomTom also advertise that the use of the historical travel time aware IQ Routing Technology results in driving a faster route in up to 35 percent of cases.

Two of the GO models, the GO 930 and GO 930T, come preloaded with East and West European maps in addition to USA and Canadian maps included across the range. While there is evidence that customers appreciate the 30 day guarantee of a free download if the preloaded map is superceeded, it would be nice to see it extended to a 90 day guarantee as the latest maps are such an important asset.

In the comparison table below can be used to quickly assess which models have the features you are after. For a detailed review of the features available with each model click on the model links at the start of this article.
