Garmin’s new Approach G3 handheld golfing GPS device is like a mini-me version of the Garmin Approach G5. Garmin’s intention was to produce a less expensive device without loosing any functionality. One new revelation at the launch was the increase in the number of preloaded courses to 12,000 (and growing). The good news is that their are no subscriptions or annual fees required for the privilege.

The software features are the same as for the Approach G5 with the only difference being the physical size and weight. Because of the size shrinking the display is slightly smaller at 2.6 inches compared to 3 inches. The resolution has reduced more proportionally though from 160 x 240 pixels compared to 240 x 400 pixels for the Approach G5.
