June 18, 2010Garmin Forerunner 110 GPS Sports Watch ReviewGarmin’s Forerunner 110 provides something essential to improving athletic performance and that is feedback. Using position information from the built-in SirF IV GPS receiver the Forerunner 110 with accurately record distance, time and pace (average). The unit has ample data storage so that you can review training sessions at your leisure using the software on the Garmin Connect website (free) for detailed analysis.
What’s appealing about the Garmin Forerunner 110 is the simplicity of use as you can see in the videos at the end of this review. Setup before getting on with your training is a simple matter of a couple of button presses. In a change from recent Garmin GPS watches the Forerunner 110 has control buttons rather than a control bezel. PC connection is via USB cable rather than wireless. As well as pace, distance and time feedback you can also keep track of your heart rate if you select the mens Black/Red ![]() Feedback from owners is that the simplicity is appreciated over the lack of some of the more advanced features available with other Garmin GPS watches such as capabilities for advanced workouts, pace alerts and interval training. As expected, the latest SiRF IV GPS receiver aided by HotFix satellite prediction functions very well with signal lock times between 20 and 60 seconds reported. The screen layout is not cluttered making it easy to read while running. There is no need to worry about getting the Forerunner 110 wet as it has a suitable IPX7 water resistance rating. Battery life is up to 8 hours in training mode when the GPS receiver is draining charge. In standby mode the unit will hold its charge for a few weeks. The Forerunner 110 is compact and light weight enough to be worn continuously as a timepiece if desired. Owners Manual for Garmin Forerunner 110 (pdf) User Reviews and Price Comparisons

I used to run with a 405 before it started playing up so I decided to buy myself a 110 as a backup. I guess that maybe is why I dont rate is as highly as some other people who like you have already said, prefer the simplicity over the advanced features.
For me though, the fact that it doesn’t come with ‘current pace’ or the ‘virtual trainer’ functionality limits its usefulness.
