The Garmin GPS 10x GPS receiver when combined with Garmin’s Mobile PC or other software can convert a laptop, tablet PC, PDA or smart phone into a GPS navigation device. It has a high sensitivity SiRFstarIII GPS receiver with WAAS capability for greater accuracy when available (<3m). PC connectivity is via Bluetooth wireless technology (Class 2) which has a range of up to 30 feet. GPS position, speed and time are transmitted. A rechargeable, removable lithium ion battery will last up to 22 hours (with typical use) and recharge in about 4 hours. Compact in size, the GPS 10x will slip into a pocket or clip to a belt (belt clip included).
The GPS 10x has a power button and a mini USB connector for recharging if not using the in-car recharger. A rapidly flashing blue light indicates the unit is on and a slower flashing indicates that a Bluetooth link has been established. A Power Status LED flashes yellow-green for charging, solid yellow-green when charged, flashing orange for low battery and solid orange for faulty battery or system error.
For device longevity, new software revisions are available online. Memory is non-volatile and won’t be lost if the battery runs flat. The device design is reasonably rugged for the intended use.
The Garmin GPS 10x GPS receiver is an excellent featured quality product for GPS enabling a laptop, tablet PC, PDA or smart phone.
