Megallan’s eXplorist 510, 610 and 710 are rugged, waterproof handheld GPS devices designed for outdoor hiking navigation using included worldwide maps. Separating them from similar devices are an inbuilt camera and microphone for recording each trip or hiking adventure. It’s similar to a Web browser’s favourites toolbar. Once set up, it can significantly reduces speed of use. In addition to the touch screen there are two customizable buttons for taking a photograph, marking a waypoint or providing quick access to a number of other preferred features. The hard buttons are an excellent feature and most will find them very handy.

As they are outdoors GPS devices the eXplorist 510, 610 and 710 are powered by two AA batteries which will last for up to 16 hours which roughly a couple of days use in the field. There is 500MB of internal memory which is expandable using a microSD card slot. Other features include paperless geocaching, GPX compatibility, vertical profiling, a digital almanac, track summary statistics and area calculation.
