Magellan OneTouch Interface

Magellan users have the One Touch user interface, or menu, which once configured provides quick access to frequently used destinations and searches (eg. find the closest parking). One Touch is similar in concept to the favorites toolbar of a Web browser.

While it takes a bit of time to set, the One Touch does noticeably reduce the time to access items stored there. Storing searches seems a better use of this interface as any addresses sought regularly become a familiar route not requiring navigation assistance. A parking search is particularly handy and guaranteed to be regularly used. The One Touch menu is accessed by touching the arrow-pointing-to-circle icon in the top right of the display. In addition to the Home Address, Emergency icon etc., there are other unassigned icons which can be selected and configured.

It comes to mind that an improvement on the system would be to have it operate in a similar way to the home screen on an Android smart phone or tablet whereby, one holds one’s finger on an icon in another menu or page for longer than normal and it is copied onto the home page for quick access. You could select, for example, items from found addresses or favorites to be moved to the One Touch menu.

In summary, One Touch gives top level menu access to:

  • Favorite businesses, restaurants, banks, gas stations, services and searches;
  • Specific addresses;
  • Applications to play music, make phone calls, or find addresses and
  • Points of Interest (POI) including the standard POI database and Magellan-exclusive AAA TourBook.
